Emergencies, any hour
Pick what it's doing. You get the likely cause, what to do in the next five minutes, what the engineer will do when they arrive, and a price band. If you'd rather just talk to someone, the number works at 3am too.

Symptom checker
If you can smell gas, leave the property, don't touch light switches, and ring the National Gas emergency line on 0800 111 999 before you ring us. They come out free, any hour.
What's it doing?
Pick the closest one. If it's two things at once, pick the one that worries you most and mention the other on the phone.
One more thing
This changes what we tell you, so it's worth a look before you answer.
No heating
Emergency rates, and when they apply
The rate is read out on the phone before anyone gets in a van. Each one includes the first hour on site and the diagnosis. Parts are on top, priced before they're fitted. No VAT to add.
The normal price. Most "emergencies" that come in before lunch are done at this rate.
One engineer on call every evening. We'll tell you where they are and roughly when.
Same as evenings. Saturday mornings before 4pm are the daytime rate.
For water you can't stop or a house with no heat and someone vulnerable in it. Otherwise we'll talk you through tonight and come first thing.
These get an engineer tonight. The rest can usually wait for the daytime rate.
Water you can't stop with the stopcock. Any smell of gas (ring 0800 111 999 first). No heating in a house with a baby, someone elderly or someone unwell, in winter. A boiler making a noise you've never heard before. Sewage backing up. Those get an engineer tonight.
A dripping tap, a radiator that won't bleed, a slow drain or a boiler that's lost pressure but still runs: those are real jobs and we'll do them properly, but they cost you less at 8am tomorrow than at 8pm tonight. We'll say so on the phone.
- Stopcock: usually under the kitchen sink. Clockwise to close.
- Boiler: the fused spur switch next to it turns the power off.
- Electrics near water: switch the circuit off at the consumer unit before we arrive.

One number, whatever the hour
