Self assessment and bookkeeping for sole traders.
Your return filed early, your books kept in an app you will actually use, and a straight answer on whether a limited company would leave you better off.

The return, the books, and the deductions you are owed.
We prepare the return from the books, check the expenses, and file it as soon as the year’s figures are settled. You get the tax figure and both payment dates in one email, months before January.
Bank feed connected, receipts photographed from the van or the kitchen table, and a quarterly tidy-up by us. Most sole traders spend under an hour a month on it once it is set up.
Quarterly digital updates are coming in for many sole traders. Where they apply to you, we handle them: the software, the submissions and the year-end statement, without you having to learn a new system or a new set of dates.
If contractors deduct tax from your invoices, we collect the statements, reconcile them against what was actually paid, and claim the deductions back through your return. Contractors who need monthly CIS returns filed: we do those too.
The question we answer most. The guide below covers the common ones; the answer to the rest is “send us a photo and we will tell you”.
The ones people ask about.
A general guide. What you can claim depends on your circumstances, and we check every case before it goes on a return.
- Tools, materials and stock bought for the work
- Van and vehicle running costs, with a mileage record
- Phone, internet and software, the business share
- Insurance, professional fees and subscriptions
- Working from home, a reasonable proportion
- Training, if it updates a skill you already use in the business
- Meals away from base, when travel is part of the job
- A vehicle bought outright rather than leased
- Equipment used partly at home
- Ordinary clothing, unless it is protective or a uniform
- Entertaining customers
- Fines and penalties
- Your own wages or drawings
A company is worth it for some people, and a nuisance for others.
The extra filing, the payroll and the higher accountancy fee are real costs. Whether they are outweighed depends on your profit, what you need to draw, and what you can leave in the business. The estimator runs the comparison on your own figures; we run it again properly before anyone forms anything.
- Profit climbing past the point where the maths starts to favour a company
- Customers or contracts that insist on dealing with a company
- A partner or investor coming in
- Work where limited liability genuinely matters

From £79 a month, and the return is included.
Spread across the year, so January is a date on the calendar rather than a bill. If you become a company with us, the switch is built in and the fee moves to the company package from the month you form it.

Send last year’s return if you have it. If your books are a carrier bag, say so; we have seen worse and we quote the tidy-up before we start.
