About

Chartered accountants in Loughborough since 2014.

Two partners, four staff, one office off the Market Place. We look after about the number of businesses two partners can actually know by name, and we turn work away when that stops being true.

The partners

Eleanor and Daniel.

Partner · chartered accountant

Eleanor trained at a large regional firm in Leicester and spent eight years there on owner-managed companies before deciding she would rather know her clients’ names. She runs the company side of the practice: year-ends, corporation tax, planning, and the conversations with HMRC that nobody else wants to have. She is the one who will tell you a dividend is a bad idea this quarter.

Partner · chartered accountant

Daniel grew up in a family with a plumbing business and did its books at sixteen, badly, which is where the interest started. He looks after sole traders and the switch to a company, CIS, and the bookkeeping side of the practice. If your accounts have ever lived in a van, he is your person.

Bookkeeping & VAT

Keeps the monthly engine running: feeds, receipts, VAT returns and the message on day three asking where the receipt went.

Payroll & pensions

Every payslip, every submission, every pension upload, on the day. Also the person who sorts out starters, leavers and statutory pay.

Two years into training, preparing accounts under Priya and Eleanor, and the reason the self assessment returns are done by October.

The office

Four rooms off the Market Place.

A converted brick building in Bishop’s Yard, two minutes from the Market Place. Two parking spaces round the back for visitors, a meeting room upstairs with a window onto the town, and a kettle that is always on.

How we started

Two people who kept meeting the same client.

Eleanor and Daniel met at a firm in Leicester in 2009, on opposite sides of the same file: she did the company accounts, he did the director’s bookkeeping. The client rang each of them every week and never got the same answer twice. They decided the answer should come from one desk.

The practice opened in Loughborough in 2014 with eleven clients, most of them tradespeople from Daniel’s family’s address book. It has grown by roughly the rate two partners can keep everyone’s names in their heads, and it will stay that size.

“A fixed fee is a promise about how the year will go. We would rather keep that promise to fewer people.”

Switching accountant

What we do with your old accountant.

Most people put off moving because they dread the conversation. There is no conversation. Here is the whole process.

The letter of engagement

One document setting out what we will do, what it costs and what we need from you. You sign it; that is your only paperwork.

Professional clearance

We write to your old firm asking whether there is any reason we should not act for you (there almost never is) and requesting your records: the last accounts, tax computations, and the working papers behind them. It is a routine letter and they are expected to answer it.

Your records

We chase the reply, check what arrives against the filed accounts, and rebuild anything missing. You do not have to speak to your old accountant at any point unless you want to.

The overlap

If a filing is due mid-move we agree who does it, in writing, so nothing falls between two firms. Your fee with us starts the month we take over, and not before.

Come and see the office, or we will come to you.

Twenty minutes, a coffee, and a fee in writing before you leave. Evenings by appointment for people who cannot get away in the day.
