Tax estimator

Sole trader or limited company?

Put your numbers in. The estimator shows the take-home either way, side by side, and then builds the filing deadlines you would be working to. Your inputs stay in this browser so you can come back to them.

Your numbers

Many owner-directors take a small salary and the rest as dividends. Try a few figures.
Capped at the profit left after salary, employer NI, pension and corporation tax. Anything you do not take stays in the company.
Do you have other taxable income?
Treated as paid from the business before tax in both cases, to keep the comparison fair.

Illustrative figures using simplified rates. Your position depends on your circumstances and the current year’s rules; we check it properly before advising.

The simplified rates this tool assumes

These are round, illustrative figures chosen to make the comparison behave sensibly. They are not a statement of the current rates, and real allowances, reliefs and your own circumstances change the answer.

Deadlines timeline

Your next twelve months, as dates.

Tell it how the business trades, when the year ends and which VAT quarters you file, and it lays out what is due when, with the next one counted down from today.

Dates follow the usual filing rules for the choices above and assume your confirmation statement review date falls at your year end. Monthly PAYE payments, which fall on the same date each month, are left off the strip to keep it readable. We confirm every date against your own records when we take you on.
